Luis Vega, Sr.

December 29, 1956 — May 3, 2021

VEGA, Luis Rey Sr., age 64 passed away Monday May 3, 2021. Luis was born December 29, 1956, and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas until 19 years of age.

He graduated from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, Tx.

He had a passion for baseball which he played in school and in his community. While he was in high school, one of his electives was Carpentry and this was the beginning of his passion for building.

Luis had a genuine heart. He was mentor, a giver, and utilized his gifts to help others.

He resided in Houston, Texas for over 45 years.

Over the course of those 45 years he worked on location at NASA Johnson Space Center.  Toward the end of his career, he made the choice to retire early to spend more time with his family.

Luis was a member of Crosspoint Church where he congregated with his wife and son. He enjoyed traveling all over the world with his family but his favorite place of all was Hawaii.  While visiting Hawaii one of his favorite places was the Pearl Harbor Memorial. Luis loved history and was honored to have experienced it in person.

Luis and his mother had a special bond, it was the love of a son who adored his mother and he demonstrated it by visiting, calling and spending time with her every chance he had.

As the youngest of five siblings, Luis was adored by all of his sisters and brother. His bond with his late brother, Juan Vega, was unlike any other and Luis kept his brother’s memory alive in every way possible. He loved and respected his sisters greatly, and was especially delighted when they visited each other.

The love for his mother extended to her two sisters in Mexico, Tia Rosa and Tia Margarita, whom he frequently visited.  It was evident that family brought joy to his life, just as much as he brought joy and an abundance of love to his loved ones.

He loved to explore the world and its beautiful cultures and cuisines from the comfort of his favorite chair. Luis would then share this knowledge and appreciation for the wonders of the world with anyone he loved.

He was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his late father Jose Vega and his brother Juan Vega. He is survived by his wife Cecilia Vega, his sons Alejandro, Rey Vega and daughter Yolanda Vega.  His two  grandchildren Damian and Mya.  His mother Elodia Ibarra Sain and his sisters Rosie Vega-Dwyer, Josephine Vega-Daigle, Lily Vega-

Orrick, his nieces Daniela and Davida, and his nephew Armand and his great nephew Mikey.
